I created this video for my brother Mike, who was just released from the hospital yesterday.
My brother has chondrosarcoma, a rare form of spinal cancer. He keeps a blog about chondrosarcoma on my website, www.surfercouple.com, and wrote about his last set of cancer surgeries last year. Unfortunately, this is the fifth time the cancer has come back. It is a very persistent form of cancer.
Mike is the strongest person I know. He tolerates these surgeries incredibly well, and is extremely brave. He’s an inspiration to me, and I love him very much.
We’re going to Kauai together next summer, along with my husband and son, Mike’s cool girlfriend Susan, and my Mom and Dad. Hopefully my other two brothers can come along, too, and then the whole family can be together. There’s nothing more important than family, and I am very blessed to have a great family that I love very much.
Mike, I wish you a speedy recovery from this surgery, and I am glad you are out of the hospital.
My prayers are with you as you prepare for your next surgery in two weeks. I love you, brother.
P.S. I screwed up one of the transition slides in the beginning, as it first says “a 5-minute vacation to Kauai,” and immediately afterwards says “3-minute vacation.” The second slide wasn’t supposed to appear. My machine locked up and now I can’t access the original file anymore. Guess Macs aren’t quite as infallible as those commercials like to make them out to be. Whatever. Ignore my typo, and enjoy the virtual vacation. It’s both great fun, and relaxing to watch.

What do you have to dial if you are in Oahu, Hawaii and you want to call the mainland (example: Chicago, IL)? Also, is it the same area code throughout hawaii or does it change from area to area?

We would like to visit Kauai next year for about 10 days. We like a 3- or 4-star hotel, but also don't like the trouble and cost of a rental car.
Where could we stay that is near a town/village which is accessible by bus or walking? I like to go into town for shopping and museums, etc. rather than just lay on the beach all day.

there are just to many hotels to choose. Do you want to be in Lihui or Kapaa or Princeville. Personally I love Hanelei bay and would choose the Princeville hotel. It is absolutely spectacular but a bit pricey.

I am moving from Maui to Connecticut in May, and I am trying to bring my pet rabbit as well. Does anyone know of affordable ways to have the rabbit shipped without it being on a flight with me?

Different airlines will charge different rates. I don't know if they would "ground ship" a live animal. I would say take it with you, but you don't want to. I KNOW you can have it shipped to come after you or arrive before you and someone can pick it up. I'm just not to sure about pricing. You'll probably have to contact the airlines directly OR check with a "mailing system" to fly it over. (By the way I live on O'ahu).
Has anyone stayed in a vacation rental in Oahu?

We only need 1 bedroom/1 bath. Under $150.00 would be nice. Do you have any suggestions???
Or do you know of any hotels under $150.00 (at max 2 blocks from the beach)??? I have been searching all night now and am confused and getting annoyed!
