We had to rise early in order to meet the tour at the Kihei boat ramp. We were staying in Lahaina and had about a 25-mile drive with a fair amount of city-type driving to get there. We calculated about 50 minutes to make that trip.

It’s easy to get up early when you come to Hawai’i from the US East Coast. After all, during the winter, 7:00am in Hawai’i is only noontime for our internal clocks. So it’s easier to arrange these early morning tours within the first couple days of our stay here.

We met the folks with Blue Water Rafting quite literally at the boat ramp. They launched the boat and we all climbed aboard.

The boat was a deep-V, hard-hulled, inflatable-type vessel. Because of the deep-V, the boat was easily able to cut through the rough water. The water got extremely rough as we headed around the southern side of Maui, where the gusty tradewinds were not blocked by the mass of the island.

The highlight of this boat tour was this encounter with a sea cave along the Kanaio Coast. I hope you find this video interesting.

As we headed back around the western side — the more wind protected side — we stopped at La PĂ©rouse Bay for some snorkeling. This was where I had a close encounter with a green sea turtle. It appeared as if he was seeking food. When he saw we had none, he moved on to beg from others. But I did manage to get a photo of him with my underwater single-use camera.

I had a hard time snorkeling here, though. The water temperature — about 75? Fahrenheit — was a little too cool for this Florida boy. I knew I should have brought a shorty wetsuit. Needless to say, I did not stay in the water too long.

We also stopped at Makena for some more snorkeling before heading back to the boat ramp.

Unfortunately, we never crossed paths with any spinner dolphins. Although it was the end of January, we did not see and humpbacks either.

This tour was just okay in our book because of the rough ride. My normally tough sea legs were put to the test and I was starting to feel ill by the time we returned to the ramp. My wife, who is usually easily sickened by the wave action, had taken Dramamine the night before and the morning of this tour. She was also starting to show signs of problems.

If you are easily overtaken with motion sickness, you may want to reconsider this ride. It’s a tough one.

I am moving to Oahu and I have a Class B CDL w/passenger endorsement, degree in audio engineering and music performance. What would be the best job for me? I have worked in Alaska as a tour guide to two seasons.

Roberts Hawaii is looking for drivers. Very few jobs available at the moment.

Getting married and going to Hawaii on our honeymoon. Sober couple, late 40's in age, enjoy nature, adventure, and places off the tourist route. We want to use this loacaqtion as a base camp and explore from there. We will be arriving Nov 19 and returing the 25th.

I love Kauai and I think the Princeville area on the North Shore of Kauai is very romantic! There are two hotels there: the 5 star Princeville Resort and the 4 star Hanalei Bay Resort. Both resorts are very nice. Alternatively, there are some great condos to rent in Princeville too.

Don't miss the romantic restaurant on the island….The Beach House.

Happy Honeymooning!

I am moving to Hawaii on a whim… what do I need to get my foot in the hospitality dept of maui, how much do these cost where to get them ect or a link is helpfull

Aloha,
You do not need a license to work on Maui in a restaurant, with the exception of a liquor license if you want to be a bartender/bartendress.
Moving to Maui on a whim is OK, just bring plenty of money because jobs are few and far between at the moment.

My husband and I are planning on going to Oahu/Honolulu in January. What are some things that we can do there? Whats the weather going to be like? It's our first trip to Hawaii.

First just let me tell you how lucky you are. My husband and I have made a few trips to Hawaii and have been there in January. The weather was beautiful. A little hot in the sun and on the beach, but not unbearable. I think the highs were about 85 degrees.

You don't have to have a car to get around the city. There is a trolley and plenty of cabs. The trolley did have a buy one four day pass get one free coupon in one of the books. I can't remember which book, so look over several of them. Go shopping at the International Market place for bargains on souvenirs. While there, stop in for a beer at the Tree Top lounge located above the shops. Go to Kobi Steak house located in front of the Hilton Hawaiian village for a fabulous dinner (they did have a $10 off coupon in one of the coupon books). Also visit Waikiki Beach, and Climb Diamond Head crater.

I haven't visited the Polynesian Cultural Center, but it's supposed to be great. Have fun!
