If you recommend vacation packages, any tips on sources for great deals you've gotten in the past for Kauai?
If you recommend booking things separately for Kauai, any tips on that? Gotten great deals on condos and/or car rentals? Also any bad experiences with condos and car rentals that i should avoid?
What about booking travel agents?
Robert's overnighter's- rooms/car/airfare & different combinations. That's what many of the locals do.Airfare/rooms get a discount. Rooms /car get a discount. you can still go independently wherever you want & also book some tours on the side.Robert's of Hawaii is the name of the company. I've used them at least 100 times. So the answer to your question is…I reccommend room/car/air packages but choose carefully if you decide to book tours with 15 people in a van, but sometimes that is a better option because the tour guides are top nltch 7 thy cook you BBQ lunch & they know places you will never find, but Kauai is a very small island, you can go exploring. A must is a 2.5 mile hike to Hanakapiai, at the end of the road at the wet caves take a short 2,5 mile hike. This is part of an 11 mile hike which you would need a 40 lb. pack & stayin for a week. That was one of the best vacations of my life!

What is the name of a good condo in Maui for families?
Author: admin
This summer our family is taking a vacation to Maui in Hawaii. We are planning to stay in a condo. We will be traveling with 4 kids and 2 adults. We are looking for a condo equipped with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and beach/ocean front. Do you have any suggestions for a good condo?
The Marriott Maui Ocean Club would work well for families, because it has some suite-type setups (like villas) with full kitchens, dining rooms, and amenities for kids.
Also, if you end up going there, I'd definitely ask about MAZE (Marriott Activities Zone Experience) – a program they have for kids.

By the way, I’m white.
I’ve heard that alot of white people living in Hawaii are labeled as Haoles and I’m wondering if that will happen when I am vacationing there.
No, you are on vacation. I doubt you will feel any labeling in a derogatory manner. They may call you Haole meaning that white person there. It is suppose to mean "auslander".
For instance, you ask for directions to a local guy.
"Hey, I don't know, but I will ask that guy."
He asks a local guy near you. The other guy asks who wants to know the answer. The guy who you asked the question says, "oh, the haole chick over there."
So is this . . .
I have Haole friends in Kailua who are honored to be haole.
You many not always be special if you get called a haole one way or the other.
It is definitely not like calling a black person a "ni*g*** word".
Enjoy your vacation . . .
Now if you do stupid stuff, somebody may be mad at you no matter where you are in the world and may call you something in a derogatory manner.
You are on vacation. It is not like you living there. There are a lot of Haoles on maui anyway. Blend in.

I want to go to Oahu Hawaii in mid May for a wedding. What airline or website provides the cheapest tickets?
I am coming form California. Either Oakland or San Francisco…which ever is cheaper. =]
It all depends on where you're coming from. If you're coming from the west coast, I highly suggest www.hawaiianair.com, as they're usually much cheaper than mainland airlines. If you're coming from somewhere midwest, or east coast, you can still save a couple hundred dollars by booking separately a cheap flight or bus ride to an airport that Hawaiian Air flies out of. If you put where you're coming from, I can help you do some research.
EDIT: Perfect! Hawaiian Air flies out of both those locations. I've found $340.26 as the cheapest roundtrip from both San Fransisco and Oakland ($160 one-way, total price includes taxes), and those are the cheapest out of Cali. Good Luck, hope this helps. And if you plan on flying to Hawaii in the future, sign up for their Hawaiian Miles program, you'll be off to a great start and may even get a discount. It's free, no credit card required, and you can also sign up for their Unadvertised Low Fares email newsletter, where you can get roundtrips to the mainland as low as $250.
Travelocity and Orbitz price is $347.23 on Hawaiian Air. It's cheaper and more reliable to book through the direct airline (do it online!), and Hawaiian Airlines was #1 in customer service ^.^
We want to know of people's experiences bringing up children on the Island, schools, suggestions of best locations to live, etc. Please only answer this if you have lived in Kauai for several years.
i suggest that you research the area youre moving to. google it.
Going to Oahu, Hawaii for my honeymoon with my husband in a couple of months and heard about things in Hawaii costs more than the mainland. Around how much more? Same with other stores, give or take?
Going to Oahu, Hawaii for my honeymoon with my husband in a couple of months and heard about things in Hawaii costs more than the mainland. Around how much more? Same with other stores, give or take. Heard of the "killer" bugs in Hawaii. How much would a can of insect repellent cost?
It depends on what you're looking for. Keep in mind that if you're using Walmart as your guide, which Walmart you go to will determine the price. The Walmart in Honolulu proper (and Pearl City) for that matter will cost more than the ones in Mililani and Kunia (since the first two are classfied as being in the main section of Honolulu and the second two are classified as being in the outskirts of town).
Keep in mind that our Walmarts are NOT supercenters so the amount of groceries you can purchase are limited to a small amount of perishable items such as milk, frozen items such as pizza, and staples such as bread. Often times, the grocery items are cheaper at a regular grocery store or even places like Costco.
Hope that helps…..good luck, happy travels, and congratulations!
We will need a vacation package with flight (round-trip), hotel, and rent-a-car.
Pleasant Holidays has Never let me down…they do Everything and are very good about backing up any Problems (IF there are any)
For Example…Last time I took my 3 teens (Last July) we booked 4 Para-Sails,and Jet Skis for 4…when we arrived at the dock our boat was having some issues and we had to wait a 1/2 an hour for it to be fixed before going out Para-Sailing…we were supposed to Jet-Ski when we were done with Parasailing but by that time it was to late…so Pleasant Holidays refunded our ENTIRE $390.00 for the whole activity and Comp'd us Free Jet Ski's for an Hour x 4 any time we wanted..they took care of us!
